A real flame moves because rising heat makes air currents that push the light in random little surges; this lantern's LED core fakes that same randomness electronically, so the glow flickers and settles the way a candle does, without anything burning. That mechanism is what lets it go anywhere an open flame cannot: hung from a tree branch, set on a wooden table, staked into garden soil, left running through rain or a snowfall without a second thought. A photocell handles the switching, turning the lantern on as light fades and off again at sunrise, so there is no fumbling with a switch in the dark. Power comes from a small panel on the lid, which tops up the internal 1800 mAh battery over roughly eight hours of daylight; on a stretch of grey days, a USB-C cable gets the same battery to full in about four hours, which is the kind of backup a purely solar light does not offer. The body is ABS plastic and powder-coated metal, chosen because both shrug off UV and damp without corroding, sealed to an IP65 rating that covers frost and summer heat as well as rain. A braided jute rope handle carries it by hand or hangs it from a hook. The glass housing runs about 12 cm (4.7 in) across and 28 cm (11 in) tall.
