An accordion frame trades one dimension for another: pull it wide and it gets shorter, push it narrow and it gets taller and denser, because the same length of branch is doing the covering either way. That trade-off is the whole design. Fully closed, at 28 cm (11 in), the willow lattice is packed tight enough for storage or a narrow gap. Stretched to the recommended 180 cm (71 in), it settles at roughly 95% coverage, which is dense enough to block a direct line of sight while still letting air move through, the way a real hedge does rather than a solid wall. Pull it past 190 cm and coverage drops to about 85%, better suited to a long garden border where some gaps are acceptable. Hollow plastic trellis systems skip this logic entirely; they hold one shape, crack at the joints in wind, and off-gas the flat chemical smell of recycled polyethylene. This frame is built from real willow branch, so it flexes instead of snapping, and the leaves are new high-density PE rather than reclaimed material, which is why they hold colour under sun and stay odourless.
