A screw-top jar is a two-handed job, and a lidless bowl lets the salt go hard. This solves both with one hinge: the half-moon bamboo lid pivots on a small pin, so a thumb pushes it aside and it stays there while you take what you need. The bamboo spoon lives in a notch cut into the rim, which means it is never in a drawer when you want it and never lying wet on the worktop. At 300 ml it holds a proper refill of salt or sugar rather than a token spoonful, and the mouth is wide enough that the spoon goes in flat — no dredging at an angle to reach the bottom. The body is speckled matte stoneware, warm sand rather than stark white, and it sits at 10.5 cm across, so it earns its place next to the hob.
