Most door stops fail in the same two ways. Either they are hollow, so the first firm push bends them, or the base is narrow and the screw works itself loose out of the floor over a year of being kicked. This one is turned from solid brass and weighs 240 grams in the hand, which sounds like a detail until you compare it with the pressed-metal version that came with the house. The base is 50 mm across, so the force of a door swinging into it is spread over a broad footprint rather than levered against a single fixing point. The barrel is knurled - the fine diamond texture you see on good tooling and camera bodies - which is machined into the metal, not printed on. It gives the stop grip and stops it looking like a plumbing offcut. You can fix it to the floor in the usual way, or straight into the wall at skirting height if you would rather not have anything standing proud of the floor to catch a vacuum cleaner on. Screws and plugs are in the box.

Turned from brass rather than pressed from sheet. The weight is the point: a hollow stop deforms the first time a door is thrown open, and after that it never sits square again.

Floor or wall, your choice
The same fixing works either way. Floor mounting is the standard; wall mounting at skirting height keeps the floor clear, which is easier to clean around and less likely to be stubbed.

Knurling that is machined in
The diamond texture is cut into the barrel, so it will not wear off. It is what stops a brass cylinder from looking like a piece of pipe.
