There are two kinds of hammock: the string net that leaves a waffle pattern on your back, and the solid canvas sheet that you actually want to lie in. This is the second kind. The bed is woven cotton canvas, which breathes on a hot afternoon and does not dig in, and at 260 by 80 cm it takes two adults side by side or one person with room to lie diagonally - which is how you get flat in a hammock rather than folded. The ends are gathered into a dense knotted cord where the ropes interlock rather than run parallel, so the load spreads across the whole width instead of pulling on a few threads. It has no spreader bar, which is deliberate: it makes the hammock wrap around you and, just as usefully, lets the whole thing fold into the drawstring bag it comes with. Hang it between two trees, on a frame, or off two hooks on a balcony.
