A box grater asks you to hold the food, hold the grater and apply force, all at once, and the last centimetre of every block of cheese ends up either wasted or across your knuckles. A rotary grater turns that into a crank. The food goes in a hopper, a lid presses it against the drum, and you turn the handle - the drum does the cutting and everything falls straight out the other side into your bowl. This one has five drums rather than the usual two or three: fine julienne for carrot, a standard shred for cheese, a coarse shred for potato, a slicing drum for cucumber and courgette, and a wave blade for crinkle cuts. They pull out and push back in without tools. The base is a suction cup that clamps onto a smooth worktop, which is the part that matters most - without it you spend the whole time steadying the body with your free hand. It comes apart completely for washing, though it is hand-wash only; the drums are stainless but the body is not made for dishwasher heat.

The suction base does the holding
It clamps to a smooth worktop so you can turn the crank one-handed and feed with the other. Without one, a rotary grater is a two-hand job that needs three.
