Plates stacked wet hold a film of water between them, and boards leaned against a wall slide down behind whatever is next to them. Standing things on edge solves both, which is all this rack does — a flat wooden base with a row of upright pegs, spaced wide enough to take a thick chopping board and close enough to hold a side plate steady. Everything dries on both faces because air reaches them, and because the items stand in a line you can see what is there and pull one out without lifting the rest. At 21 by 12,5 cm it occupies about the space of a small book, and at 9 cm high it slides into a base cupboard as easily as it sits on the counter. It is solid timber rather than coated wire, so there is no plating to chip and nothing to rust in a wet corner — just dry it now and then, the way you would a wooden board. Plenty of people use it on a desk for notebooks and files, which works exactly as well.

On edge means dry
A plate on its edge dries on both faces. Stacked flat it holds water between the plates, and that is what leaves marks.

Wide enough for real boards
The pegs are spaced to take a thick end-grain board, not just thin plastic mats — the measurement most racks get wrong.
