Behind the wood face sits a magnetic stainless steel plate with two strong magnets, which is what gives it the holding power for a full-size chef's knife rather than only the light stuff. Because the wood sits between the magnet and the blade, the steel edge never grinds against metal. Mount it with the screws and plugs in the box, or use heavy-duty adhesive tape if you would rather not drill into tiles - the back is flat and the keyhole slots are already routed.
