Description

Seven utensils turned from solid teak - the wood boats are built from, because it barely absorbs water and does not split when it dries.

  • Solid teak, not bamboo laminate or rubberwood
  • Seven pieces from 18 to 34 cm: spatula, turner, ladle, skimmer and three spoons
  • Will not scratch non-stick pans or enamelled cast iron
  • Wood does not conduct heat, so the handle stays cool on the pan
  • Hanging hole in every handle
  • Naturally oily grain that resists water and staining

Teak is what boat decks are made from, and for the same reason it belongs in a kitchen: the grain is naturally oily, so it takes on very little water, and it does not swell, split or go furry the way cheaper hardwoods do after a few months of washing up. These are turned from solid teak rather than glued bamboo strips, which is what you can see in the grain - it runs the length of each piece instead of stopping at a join. The set covers what you actually reach for: a wide spatula at 34 cm for turning, a slotted turner at 31.5 cm, a rounded ladle, a perforated skimmer for lifting things out of oil or water, and three spoons from 18 to 26 cm for stirring and serving. Wood does not conduct heat, so a spoon left in a simmering pan has a handle you can still pick up, and it will not scratch a non-stick coating or the enamel on cast iron - which is where metal utensils quietly do their damage. Every handle has a hanging hole. Wash them by hand and rub in a little food-safe oil now and then and they will outlast several pans.

Teak, and you can see it
Solid pieces, so the grain runs uninterrupted. Bamboo utensils are glued strips and they come apart along the joins eventually.

Safe on every pan
Wood cannot scratch a non-stick coating or chip enamel. That is the single most expensive thing metal utensils do to a kitchen.

Cool handles
Wood does not conduct heat. Leave a spoon in the pan and you can still pick it up.
