The problem with a shelf in a bathroom is not holding things up, it is what happens underneath them. Shampoo bottles drip, a wet razor leaves a ring, and on a solid shelf that water has nowhere to go: it pools, then it stains, and eventually something grows in it. This one has a perforated aluminium base, so water runs straight through and evaporates instead of sitting there. The aluminium is anodised rather than painted, which is what keeps it from rusting in a room that is warm and wet twice a day. A raised lip runs along the edges so a bottle knocked sideways stays on the shelf, and the wood front rail keeps it from looking like gym equipment.
