Brewing tea properly means pouring water away: warming the pot, rinsing the leaves, emptying a cup that went cold. On a table that is a nuisance; on a tray like this it simply disappears. The top is dark-toned bamboo cut into slats, and underneath sits a reservoir that catches everything and holds it until you tip it out. At 36 by 24 centimetres there is room for a pot, a fairness cup and several small cups at once, so it works for serving other people rather than just yourself. The dark finish is the point as much as the function: it reads closer to walnut than to the pale bamboo you usually see, which suits a darker table or a room with black metal and warm wood in it.

The water goes somewhere
Rinse water and cold tea drop straight through the slats into the reservoir below, so the surface stays dry and nothing needs mopping up.
