The difficulty with a horse in mid-rear is that most versions look like a horse standing awkwardly on two legs. This one is modelled with the weight actually shifted back over the haunches, the forelegs tucked rather than pawing at nothing, and the mane and tail thrown in the direction of the movement - which is what sells the illusion. At 30.5 cm it is large enough to anchor a shelf or a console table by itself instead of joining a cluster of small objects, and the 550 g of cast resin means it does not skate across a polished surface when someone closes a drawer. The base is textured to read as rock, so the piece has something to stand on rather than floating on a flat disc.
