Anyone who brews tea properly knows the problem: warming the pot and rinsing the leaves means water going somewhere, and a saucer does not cut it. This tray is the traditional answer, scaled down. The bamboo top is cut into slats so liquid falls straight through, and underneath sits a shallow reservoir that catches it all and keeps it out of sight until you are finished. Then the two parts lift apart, you tip the reservoir out, and both wipe dry. At 19.5 centimetres square it is a personal tray rather than a full tea table, which is the point: it fits on a desk, a windowsill or the corner of a side table and stays there. The bamboo darkens very slightly with use, the way a wooden board does.

The water disappears
Rinse water and spills drop through the slats into the reservoir underneath, so the surface stays dry while you brew and there is nothing to mop up afterwards.
